Reading Comprehension -Tips and Tricks


 
The most common question that constantly troubles students' mind is, how to improve reading comprehensions?

Now, there is no need to worry at all because here we will discuss some important tips and tricks which helps you to solve any type of reading comprehension.

Before we dig into the topic let’s understand the meaning of the word ‘Comprehension'. The basic meaning of the word Comprehension is ‘Comprehend' means ‘to understand something completely'. It is a good way to check your reading and understanding skills in the exam.





So, let’s discuss some important tips and tricks which helps you to solve the Comprehension without consuming much time.

 
1. Do not read the comprehension first.
Yes, you have heard right, don’t read the Comprehension first, instead, read the questions carefully. If you have noticed, the heading of every Comprehension is  ‘Read the passage carefully'. But the thing which you need to do is ‘Read the questions carefully'. This helps you to get a brief idea about what you need to find in the passage.
 
2. No need to learn every word or over emphasize on vocabulary.
Having a strong vocabulary is good but don’t put yourself under stress. The thing you need to do is ‘understand English in English'.For example, Joseph is an ophthalmologist. And suppose the question is: what is the profession of Joseph?
Simply the answer to this question is ‘ophthalmologist'. So you don’t need to understand the meaning of ophthalmologist or every word.
 
3. Carefully observe the order of questions.
It is very common that in every Comprehension that the first question is from the first or second paragraph, similarly the second question is from the second or third paragraph and this order follows for next questions also.
So, observing the order of questions are extremely important.






4. Do Antonyms and synonymous at the end.

After solving the complete passage do Antonyms and synonymous at the end because at this time you are familiar with most of the words in the passage and this saves your lot of time.
 
5. First and last paragraphs require more focus.
Questions from the main idea of the comprehension are mostly from the first and the last paragraph. So carefully read these paragraphs.
 
6. Do not overthink.




The bonus tip is, do not leave any question unattempted. As reading comprehension is very easy and scoring part of the exam so do not do a blunder by leaving a question unattempted. Do not panic and try to solve passage calmly. To increase your speed try to solve more and more passages  as much as you can, as ‘Practice makes a man perfect'
